Róisín Shortall

Question:

107 Ms Shortall asked the Minister for justice the number and rank of gardaí in each Garda station in the Dublin metropolitan area; and the population of the catchment area in each case. [5141/95]

Eoin Ryan

Question:

112 Mr. E. Ryan asked the Minister for Justice the number of gardaí in the greater Dublin area; and the number involved in traffic duties. [4843/95]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 107 and 112 together.

I propose to provide information on a divisional basis as that is the information now readily to hand. The information is as set out in the table below.

There are 3,983 members of the force employed in the greater Dublin area at present of which 123 are employed full-time on traffic duty. However, all members of the Garda Síochána may be involved in traffic duties from time to time and members assigned specifically to traffic units may also be involved in other forms of policing, such as crime prevention and detection.
I should also point out that many of the units based at the DMA headquarters, Harcourt Square, operate as required outside the Dublin metropolitan Area. Some of these units also provide advice and assistance on a countrywide basis.
