Vol. 450 No. 2

Written Answers. - Domestic Violence.

Seán Haughey

Question:

111 Mr. Haughey asked the Minister for Justice if her attention has been drawn to problems of domestic violence by children against their parents; the measures, if any, she proposes to deal with this problem; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [4841/95]

I am informed by the Garda authorities that the Garda has encountered incidents of domestic violence committed by children against their parents and that such incidents are dealt with under the criminal law. However, in order to strengthen the law in this area, I know that my colleague the Minister for Equality and Law Reform is preparing legislation to extend the civil law on domestic violence to cope with situations described in the question.
