Vol. 450 No. 4

Request to Move Adjournment of Dáil under Standing Order 30.

Before coming to the Order of Business I propose to deal with a notice of motion under Standing Order 30. I now call on Deputy O'Rourke to state the matter of which she has given me notice.

I wish to seek leave to move the Adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 30 to discuss an issue of urgent importance, that is the proposed closure of the knitwear division of Sunbeam Industries Limited in Cork and the need for immediate Government intervention and investigation.

Having considered the matter fully I do not consider it to be one contemplated by the Standing Order and, therefore, I cannot grant leave to move the motion. The House will appreciate the Chair has facilitated Members in raising this matter on a number of occasions recently, on the Adjournment Debate of 16 February and on Tuesday last, 7 March, and will facilitate further discussion, if possible.

Thank you, a Cheann Comhairle.
