Vol. 450 No. 4

Written Answers. - Welfare Service for Teachers.

Eric J. Byrne

Question:

27 Mr. E. Byrne asked the Minister for Education the progress, if any, made to date on the implementation of the Government's commitment in A Government of Renewal to establish a comprehensive welfare service for teachers; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [5105/95]

A working party representative of the management authorities, the teacher unions at primary and post-primary levels and my Department has been set up to bring forward proposals for the establishment of a welfare service for teachers.

It is expected that the proposals of the working party will be submitted by the end of April. I would hope that the service could be established on a pilot basis before the beginning of the 1995-96 school year.
