Vol. 450 No. 4

Written Answers. - Remedial Teachers.

Tony Killeen

Question:

54 Mr. Killeen asked the Minister for Education the action, if any, she will take to ensure that schools which have not been included in groups of adjacent primary schools qualifying for the services of a remedial teacher are now given access to such services even if all other schools in the area are already served by a remedial teacher. [5096/95]

As I recently announced, I intend to allocate an additional 55 remedial teacher posts to the primary school sector in 1995. This will bring the total number of remedial teachers in place in that sector to 1,188.

These additional posts will be allocated on the basis of priority of need following the collection and analysis of data from primary schools by my Department's primary inspectorate.

The needs of all schools, including schools in areas where all other schools have a remedial service, will be considered in the context of this development.
