Vol. 450 No. 4

Written Answers. - Provision of Regional Technical College.

Trevor Sargent

Question:

57 Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for Education the progress being made in providing a regional technical college in the greater Blanchardstown area; when the building of this facility for this area which has a higher population than Limerick, Galway or Waterford and 50 per cent of its population is under 25 years of age, will take place; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [4821/95]

I will be considering the future development of the higher education sector in the context of the findings of the steering committee which I set up under the aegis of the Higher Education Authority to advise me on this matter.

I will consider the provision of further third level colleges in the light of the findings of the steering committee. I have received for my information the interim report of the technical working group to the steering committee. This report has also been published. The report represents a valuable contribution to the work of the steering committee and I look forward to receiving the steering committee's report and recommendations together with the views of the Higher Education Authority.
