Vol. 450 No. 4

Written Answers. - School Secretarial Services.

John Browne

Question:

65 Mr. Browne (Carlow-Kilkenny) asked the Minister for Education the plans, if any, she has to change the present rules whereby Scoil Mhuire Gan Smal, Carlow and Presentation College, Carlow are expected to share one school secretary because of an agreement drawn up in 1978 in view of the fact that Presentation College, Carlow has changed location and size since then, now having 665 pupils and Scoil Mhuire having 373 pupils. [4970/95]

I have increased again this year the funding for the scheme of additional capitation grants for the provision of clerical and caretaking services.

Part of the increase will be allocated to improve the position of large schools that currently have shared services only.

My Department has begun a comprehensive review of the circumstances applying in all such schools before determining the precise adjustments that will be made.

The position of the schools referred to by the Deputy will be examined as part of the review. I intend to have revised arrangements in place from 1 September next.
