Vol. 450 No. 4

Written Answers. - Waterford University Action Group.

Peadar Clohessy

Question:

82 Mr. Clohessy asked the Minister for Education the plans, if any, she has to meet the Waterford University Action Group in view of the findings of the Sexton report and the anxiety of the group to upgrade the regional technical college to institute of technology status. [5121/95]

I have no plans at present to meet the Waterford University Action Group. I will be considering the future of the higher education sector generally and the position of Waterford Regional Technical College in particular in the context of the findings of the steering committee which I set up under the aegis of the Higher Education Authority to advise me on this matter.

I have received for my information the interim report of the technical working group to the steering committee. The report represents a valuable contribution to the work of the steering committee and I look forward to receiving the steering committee's report and recommendations together with the views of the Higher Education Authority before outlining my plans for any particular area.
