Vol. 450 No. 4

Written Answers. - Skibbereen (Cork) Sewerage Scheme.

Joe Walsh

Question:

96 Mr. J. Walsh asked the Minister for the Environment if his attention has been drawn to the health hazard created by the outflow of raw sewage from the Skibbereen urban area, County Cork, into the Illen river; and, the steps, if any, he will take to eliminate this problem. [5311/95]

Joe Walsh

Question:

98 Mr. J. Walsh asked the Minister for the Environment if he will sanction the commencement of work on a new sewerage scheme and treatment plant for Skibbereen, County Cork. [5318/95]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 96 and 98 together. The strategy study on sewage sludge, which my Department circulated to local authorities in June 1994, has specific implications for the planning of the Skibbereen sewerage scheme. My Department has accordingly requested Cork County Council to re-examine the preliminary report prepared some time ago for this scheme and awaits the council's response.
