Vol. 450 No. 4

Written Answers. - Grant Payment.

Austin Deasy

Question:

104 Mr. Deasy asked the Minister for Education if she will ensure that persons aged between 18 and 21 years of age who opt for training as opposed to signing for unemployment assistance are given a maintenance allowance; and if she will examine the case of a person (details supplied) in County Waterford who is attending a training course of one year's duration at an outdoor education centre away from home but has been unable to obtain any maintenance assistance. [2932/95]

Vocational preparation and training courses are provided by my Department in schools and colleges outside the third level system. No maintenance grants are payable in respect of pupils attending such courses.

The House will be aware that I have abolished fees for post leaving cert courses with effect from 1995/96.
