Vol. 450 No. 6

Written Answers. - In-Service Education Funding.

Mary Coughlan

Question:

107 Miss Coughlan asked the Minister for Education the total budget allocation for in-service education in 1995; the specific allocation for the primary, post-primary and third-level sectors; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [5357/95]

Funding for in-career training is supported by the European Social Fund under the 1994-99 Community Support Framework. It includes an increased provision from the 1989-93 Community Support Framework in support of the expansion and development of third-level activity and a new allocation in support for in-career training programmes encompassing first and second levels. The 1995 Estimates provision for third-level activity under the CSF is £1.7 million.

For programmes encompassing first and second levels the 1995 Estimates provision is £6.6 million. This allocation is programme driven in accordance with the objectives agreed with the European Commission under the Human Resources Operational Programme. It is not allocated on a sectoral basis. In line with this, a range of the activities and programmes supported are cross-sectoral.
