Vol. 450 No. 6

Written Answers. - Cork School Status.

Batt O'Keeffe

Question:

114 Mr. B. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Education if she intends to include a school (details supplied) in Cork in the scheme of assistance to schools in designated areas of disadvantage. [5493/95]

I am aware that the school in question has applied for inclusion in the disadvantaged areas scheme. I have commissioned the Combat Poverty Agency to conduct a detailed study of current approaches to the identification and support of pupils in disadvantaged areas. I expect to receive a report on the outcome of this study by the middle of this year and this will provide a basis for development of future approaches in this area. The needs of the school referred to by the Deputy will be considered in the context of any expansion of the disadvantaged areas scheme which may be undertaken.
