Vol. 450 No. 6

Written Answers. - Ballycastle (Mayo) Garda Station.

Tom Moffatt

Question:

145 Dr. Moffatt asked the Minister for Justice the proposals, if any, she has to assign gardaí to Ballycastle Garda station, County Mayo, in view of the fact that all former members with the exception of one member have retired. [5594/95]

The current strength at Ballycastle is one garda since the retirement of a garda there in October, 1994. Prior to that date the personal strength of the station was two gardaí.

The present member allocated to Ballycastle station resides in the sub-district. He is assisted with the policing of the area, on a continuous basis, by gardaí from Ballina station and the traffic corps from Castlebar station.

The Garda authorities are satisfied that the present policing arrangements are adequate to meet the needs of the Ballycastle area. However, the position will be kept under review.
