Vol. 450 No. 6

Written Answers. - Development of New Sources of Renewable Energy.

James Leonard

Question:

183 Mr. Leonard asked the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications the proposals, if any, he has for the development of new sources of renewable energy on a cross-Border basis as stated in EU Directive on INTERREG II funding. [5464/95]

The INTERREG II programme 1994-1999 includes an allocation for measures in the field of energy efficiency and renewable sources of energy. These measures will be aimed at developing the energy resources of the INTERREG region, focusing on its renewable energy potential, and at enhancing the efficiency of energy use in the region. The details of the measures are at present being finalised by my Department and the Department of Economic Development, Northern Ireland, and will be put in place in the coming months.
