Vol. 450 No. 6

Written Answers. - Proposed Prisons Board.

Kathleen Lynch

Question:

28 Kathleen Lynch asked the Minister for Justice the progress, if any, which has been made with regard to the establishment of a prison board as promised in the Programme A Government of Renewal; the proposals, if any, she has in this regard; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [5290/95]

Pat Upton

Question:

48 Dr. Upton asked the Minister for Justice the progress, if any, she has made in relation to the proposal to examine the establishment of a prison board to manage the day to day running of prisons; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [5285/95]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 28 and 48 together.

As provided in the document,A Government of Renewal, I am carrying out an examination of options in relation to the establishment of a prisons board and will bring my conclusions before the Government when my examination is completed. It would be inappropriate to make a statement about any proposals I may be considering in advance of their submission to Government.
