Vol. 450 No. 6

Written Answers. - Ministerial Office Refurbishment.

Micheál Martin

Question:

67 Mr. Martin asked the Minister for Finance the number of times the ministerial office at the Department of Education was refurbished since the present Minister's appointment in 1992; and the cost of this refurbishment. [5519/95]

Since the appointment of the present Minister for Education in 1992 works were carried out in the Minister's office on two separate occasions.

In 1993 additional wall lighting was provided with consequential minor redecoration at a cost of £5,000.

Substantial structural works were carried out in Tyrone House in 1993. As a consequence of this work and as part of a general programme of restoration of Tyrone House, the Minister's office was refurbished at a cost of £47,000 in 1994.

Micheál Martin

Question:

68 Mr. Martin asked the Minister for Finance the extent and nature of the refurbishment currently under way at the Department of Finance; the estimated cost of this refurbishment; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [5520/95]

While there is no refurbishment currently under way in my Department, various works are planned and they include the following: a kitchen and dining room to be provided for use by management and myself. This was originally requested by the former Minister for Finance; a cafeteria for staff is to be located on the third floor; ground floor refurbishments will include upgrading the Department's conference facility and improving ladies and gents toilets; in accordance with safety standards, fire doors are to be provided on each floor.

The estimated cost of the aforementioned works is not yet finalised but may be in the region of £400,000. The staff cafeteria, conference room refurbishment and provision of fire doors accounts for a large proportion of this estimate.
