Vol. 450 No. 8

Written Answers. - Bull Bars.

Michael Creed

Question:

121 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for the Environment if his Department has conducted any survey regarding the implications of bull bars on road vehicles; and if he intends to introduce legislation to ban this equipment. [6094/95]

My Department has not conducted any such survey but is keeping abreast of UK research in this area.

As Directive 74/483/EEC allows for the fitting of bull bars on road vehicles, I am not in a position to introduce legislation or regulations to ban this equipment so long as it meets the standards in the directive. I understand, however, that the directive is currently being reviewed by the European Commission.
