Vol. 450 No. 8

Written Answers. - School Transport.

Liam Aylward

Question:

149 Mr. Aylward asked the Minister for Education if she will sanction the allocation of an extra minibus to serve both schools in St John's Parish, Kilkenny, which would collect and deliver the children involved at the school gate in view of the fact that these schools are in the disadvantaged category. [6091/95]

I understand that the children in question are currently collected and delivered a short distance from the schools concerned. The matter is at present being examined by my Department. The Deputy will be informed of the outcome.

In the context of the school transport scheme, the eligibility of children is assessed on the basis of age and distance from the nearest school. The scheme makes no provision for special transport arrangements for children attending schools in the disadvantaged category.
