Vol. 450 No. 8

Written Answers. - Pressure Group's Access to Schools.

Noel Dempsey

Question:

154 Mr. Dempsey asked the Minister for Education the policy, if any, she operates in relation to allowing access by pressure groups to schools. [6157/95]

The boards of management of primary schools are afforded discretion under the Rules for National Schools in relation to access by visitors. My prior approval is not required. The rules prescribe that the school may be visited during school hours by any person for the purpose of observing the ordinary working of the school subject to the approval of the board of management. Such visitors may not interfere with the business of the school or divert the attention of the teachers or pupils from their work.

The management authorities of post-primary schools also have discretion in regard to the admission of visitors.
