Question:166 Mr. Dempsey asked the Minister for Justice if she intends to instruct the Garda to take action against private hire operators who are in breach of the law. [6161/95]
Written Answers. - Private Hire Operator Offences.
I am informed by the Garda authorities that the Road Traffic (Public Service Vehicles) regulations are enforced by the gardaí. Prosecutions are taken in all cases where offences under the regulations are detected by the gardaí, or are brought to their notice, and in which there is evidence to support such prosecutions.
I am informed by the Garda authorities that 56 prosecutions have been taken for breaches of the regulations since 1 January 1994.
