Vol. 450 No. 8

Written Answers. - Financial Contributions to Political Parties.

Robert Molloy

Question:

173 Mr. Molloy asked the Minister for Social Welfare if any semi-State bodies for which he is responsible have made direct or indirect financial contributions to any political party in the past three years; and, if so, if he will give details regarding these contributions, including the amounts paid and the name of each party; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6178/95]

There are two statutory agencies under the control of my Department, namely the Combat Poverty Agency and the Pensions Board.

Neither of these organisations has made any financial contributions, direct or indirect, to any political party in the past three years. Indeed, to do so would be outside their legal remit and the board members are well aware of this. In addition, the accounts of both bodies are audited, in accordance with their legislation, by the Comptroller and Auditor General.
