Vol. 450 No. 8

Written Answers. - New National Radio Station.

Peter Barry

Question:

218 Mr. Barry asked the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications the frequencies which would be allocated to any new national radio station; if it will be permitted to operate on the medium wave band as well as FM; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [5906/95]

That part of the frequency spectrum between 99.8 and 102 Megahertz has been reserved by my Department for a possible new national radio station at the request of the Independent Radio and Television Commission, which is the independent body charged with establishing such a service. No such request has been received with regard to transmission on medium wave and in any event this, along with other more specific details, would, in the first instance, be a matter for the Independent Radio and Television Commission.
