Written Answers. - Office of Director of Public Prosecutions Statistics.

Seamus Brennan

Question:

19 Mr. S. Brennan asked the asked the Taoiseach, in view of his response to the suggestion in Dáil Éireann on 8 March 1995, if he will have arrangements made to have legislation introduced to make it a legal requirement for the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions to publish factual data, on a quarterly basis, of the number and type of cases with him, the cases dealt with, the way in which they were dealt with and the cases outstanding. [

The Director of Public Prosecutions has informed me that when implementation of a current project for the installation of automated case registration, tracking, management and analysis is completed this summer, the statistics relevant to the proposal in this parliamentary question will be readily available. At that stage, the director would be glad to make the data available for publication. Consequently, the need for amending legislation does not arise.
