Vol. 450 No. 8

Written Answers. - Cultural Relations Committee.

Michael Ring

Question:

53 Mr. Ring asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs if he will furnish a list of the successful applicants to the Cultural Relations Committee in 1994; and the people on the committee for 1994. [6104/95]

The Cultural Relations Committee, CRC, is a voluntary body of up to 18 members appointed every two years by the Minister for Foreign Affairs. The committee advises the Minister of the day on the artistic and cultural merits of projects to be presented abroad and recommends whether such projects should be assisted financially out of the allocation for cultural relations voted annually by Dáil Éireann. Secretarial services for the committee are provided by the cultural section of my Department and one of its staff serves as secretary to the committee.

The following members were appointed by me to the present CRC in April 1994:

Brendan Kennelly (Chair), poet and academic.

Anne Augusta, artist.

John Behan, artist, member of Aosdána.

Paul Brady, musician.

Cecily Brennan, artist, member of Aosdána.

Terence Brown, academic and writer.

T.V. Honan, theatre manager.

Fionnuala Hunt, violinist.
Enda Longley, academic and critic.
Alf Mac Lochlainn, librarian (formerly National Library and UCG).
Emer McNamara, arts administrator.
Chris Meehan, musician.
Peter Murray, curator, Crawford Municipal Art Gallery, Cork.
Adrian Munnelly, Director, Arts Council.
Doireann Ní Bhriain, broadcaster, Irish Commissioner, L'Immaginaire Irlandais.
Michael Ó Siadhail, poet, member of Aosdána.
Máire de Paor (deceased), archaeologist and writer.
Liz Sharkey, National Youth Federation/Macra na Feirme.
The Deputy has asked for a list of the successful applicants to the CRC in 1994. As I mentioned in my reply to Question No. 55 on 21 February 1995, put down by another Deputy, this material, which is at a late stage of preparation, is voluminous and will be sent to the Deputy in the form he has requested. The material will also be placed in the Oireachtas Library.
