Vol. 450 No. 8

Written Answers. - Mandatory Blood Tests.

Ben Briscoe

Question:

72 Mr. Briscoe asked the Minister for Health if consideration has been given to introducing blood tests for couples getting married in view of the number of single parent births; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [5868/95]

Limerick East): The issue raised by the Deputy has not yet been the subject of detailed consideration. The desirability of introducing a mandatory blood test needs to be fully examined and would appropriately arise in the context of legislation to amend the current marriage law.
