Vol. 451 No. 3

Written Answers. - Independent Radio Services.

Robert Molloy

Question:

37 Mr. Molloy asked the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications if he has received and application from Galway Bay FM for a licence for change of location of signal from Tuam Road to Tonabrockey, County Galway; when a decision will be made; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6508/95]

The Independent Radio and Television Commission is the body with responsibility for independent radio services throughout the country. Applications such as the one the Deputy is inquiring about are made in the first instance by the local operator or the commission, where they are examined and may be approved or not. It is only following such approval that the commission will apply to my Department for any change in the technical terms of a licence.

Until a request is received from the Independent Radio and Television Commission, I have no function in this matter. No such request has been received for any changes to the licence for Galway Bay FM. If such an application is received I can assure the Deputy that it will be processed without any undue delay.
