Vol. 451 No. 3

Written Answers. - Flood Relief Measures.

Brian Cowen

Question:

43 Mr. Cowen asked the Minister for Finance when remedial works necessary to relieve flooding at a location (details supplied) in County Offaly will be carried out by the Office of Public Works in view of the seriousness of the flooding in an area suffering similar hardship to areas in south County Galway. [6564/95]

The Mountbolus area is situated in the River Brosna catchment and there are a number of maintainable channels of the Brosna drainage scheme located there. However, in the absence of specific data I am unable to determine the exact location of the channel in question or whether it was included in the scheme. In these circumstances, I cannot establish exactly what works would be required to relieve whatever problems exist. If the Deputy furnishes me with sufficient information to identify the area, I will have the matter examined.
