Vol. 451 No. 3

Written Answers. - Teachers' Salary and Pension Entitlements.

Michael Creed

Question:

59 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for Education if she will review the regulations governing salary increments and pension entitlements relating to teaching experience abroad; and the estimated annual cost to the Department of granting full recognition for this service. [6576/95]

There is no provision for the transfer of pensionable service from abroad. In the case of primary and post-primary teachers incremental credit is allowed for approved teaching experience abroad up to a maximum of seven years, subject to a maximum of four years in respect of service given prior to 1 June 1979. My Department has no immediate plans to review the agreements governing the award of salary increments for teaching experience abroad. An estimated annual cost of granting full recognition for this service is not available as such an estimation would require examination of individual teachers' records.
