Vol. 451 No. 3

Written Answers. - Food Promotion.

Ivor Callely

Question:

69 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry the incentives, if any, available for food promotion in 1995, particularly for restaurant proprietors; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6555/95]

An Bord Bia has a comprehensive promotional programme in place for 1995 covering home and export markets and targeting both retail and food service/catering operations.

This programme includes the carrying out of market research, the provision of advice and market intelligence to the food trade, the co-ordination of visits to Ireland by food buyers and of exhibitions at international food fairs, and the provision of financial incentives to the food trade to enhance their marketing and innovation functions.

Eleven events specifically targeted at the food service/catering sector have been scheduled for the first six months of 1995 and events for the remainder of the year yet to be finalised.

No specific incentives are provided for restaurant proprietors.
