Vol. 451 No. 6

Written Answers. - National School Staffing.

Liam Lawlor

Question:

85 Mr. Lawlor asked the Minister for Education if she will reverse her Department's decision on the teaching staff complement at a primary school (details supplied) in Dublin 22; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [7033/95]

The staffing of a national school is determined by the enrolment on 30 September of the previous year.

The enrolment of the school in question on 30 September 1994 was 293 which warrants a staffing of principal plus nine assistants for the 1995-96 school year. The school currently has a staff of principal plus ten assistants. The enrolment required for the retention of the tenth assistant from 1 September 1995 is 295.

However, I am having the matter re-examined in my Department. The Deputy will be informed of the outcome at an early date.
