Vol. 452 No. 1

Adjournment Debate Matters.

I wish to advise the House of the following matters in respect of which notice has been given under Standing Order 20 and the name of the Member in each case: (1) Deputy Shortall — the need for a high-level co-ordinated response to the drug problem in Dublin; (2) Deputy Eric Byrne — the urgent need to provide access to a methadone maintenance programme in all prisons and to enable drug abusers to continue the programme in the community following their release from prison; (3) Deputy Kathleen Lynch — the need for school principals to be required to notify school attendance officers on a monthly basis of any suspensions or expulsions made and to expand the school attendance service nationally; (4) Deputy Deasy — the need for urgent measures to prevent the destruction of wildlife habitats, in particular, those of nesting birds, many of which are being destroyed by hedge cutting and burning of undergrowth and heather; (5) Deputy O'Donoghue — the need for a permanent High Court based in Munster; and (6) Deputy O'Donnell — the urgent need to establish a national programme for the accommodation of the travelling community.

The matters raised by the following Deputies have been selected for discussion: Deputies Shortall, Deasy, O'Donnell and Kathleen Lynch.
