Written Answers. - Cork City Libraries.

Peter Barry

Question:

41 Mr. Barry asked the Minister for the Environment when capital funding will be available for libraries in Cork City. [8449/95]

There are three library proposals for Cork city currently under consideration by my Department.

A proposal to lease a unit of Mahon Shopping Centre for use as a branch library was approved in principle in February 1994. Detailed layout and cost plans requested at that time are awaited in my Department.

A proposal to relocate the branch library at Hollyhill to a leased unit of Hollyhill Shopping Centre was approved in principle in February 1994. Detailed layout and cost plans were received in my Department last December and are currently under consideration in conjunction with An Chomhairle Leabharlanna. Approval in principle for a new branch library at Bishopstown was granted in October 1992. Detailed layout and cost plans which were requested at that time have not yet been received in my Department.
