Vol. 453 No. 1

Written Answers. - Illegal Growth Promotion Chemicals.

Pat Upton

Question:

85 Dr. Upton asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry the total amount of money spent by his Department in carrying out chemical analysis to detect the presence of illegal growth-promoting chemicals in farm animals or their carcases. [8990/95]

The total cost to my Department of laboratory analysis of illegal growth promoters in 1994, the last full year for which data is available, is estimated at £1,012,752. This figure includes provision for staff costs and equipment as well as the costs of carrying out analysis but does not include costs borne by the State Laboratory which is also engaged in analysis for residues of illegal growth promoters.
