Vol. 453 No. 3

Written Answers. - Primary School Transport.

Tony Killeen

Question:

140 Mr. Killeen asked the Minister for Education if primary school transport will be provided for a person (details supplied) in County Clare. [9341/95]

The child in question is not attending the nearest national school, and is therefore ineligible for free school transport.

However, my Department is prepared to consider allowing the child avail of concessionary fare-paying transport. This concession may be granted provided that the written agreement of the board of management of the nearest school to the provision of such transport is secured.
The granting of the fare-paying concession is also subject to there being room on the bus after all eligible children have been accommodated, and to no extra State cost being incurred in facilitating the child.
It is understood that accommodation is currently available on the vehicle serving the chosen school. The current charge is £16 per term.
