Vol. 453 No. 3

Written Answers. - Overseas Development Aid.

Ivor Callely

Question:

57 Mr. Callely asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs if he will give details of Ireland's overseas development aid in 1994; the likely outcome in terms of total aid in 1995; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [9264/95]

Ireland's expenditure on Official Development Assistance amounted to £70 million in 1994, which was equivalent to 0.23 per cent of GNP (provisional figure). Expenditure in 1995 is expected to amount to £89 million which would be equivalent to 0.27 per cent of forecast GNP.

In 1994, 70 per cent of ODA came from the Vote for International Co-operation. The rest was made up of expenditure from central funds and from Votes of other Departments. Of the total expenditure of £70 million, £31.4 million went to multilateral assistance and £37.3 million to bilateral assistance.
Full details of expenditure on Official Development Assistance including details of individual projects are set out in the Annual Report on the Aid Programme which is published by my Department. The 1993 edition is available. The 1994 report will be published this summer and copies will be placed in the Library of the House.
