Written Answers. - Oral Contraceptives.

Eoin Ryan

Question:

83 Mr. E. Ryan asked the Minister for Health the information, if any, available in the National Drugs Advisory Board or any other agency of his Department in relation to the contraceptive pill, particularly in relation to the dangers arising from the hormone ethinyloestradio; if his attention has been drawn to media reports (details supplied) highlighting the proported dangers of this drug; the views, if any, he has on the matter; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [9232/95]

Limerick East): I am arranging for the compilation of the technical material sought by the Deputy and will communicate it to him as soon as it is to hand. In line with my policy to ensure accurate prescribing information, all oral contraceptives include warnings outlining the risk. These include contraindications and precautionary statements on the product information provided to doctors.
