Vol. 453 No. 3

Written Answers. - Spending on Needs of the Disabled.

Mary Wallace

Question:

92 Miss M. Wallace asked the Minister for Equality and Law Reform the amount and nature of all spending within his Department and by bodies under his Department's aegis on schemes specifically directed towards meeting the needs of people with disabilities. [9376/95]

Neither my Department nor bodies under its aegis administer schemes specifically directed towards meeting the needs of people with disabilities. The Commission on the Status of People with Disabilities, which I established in 1993, is due to submit its report to the Government at the end of this year. In so far as the operation of such schemes may require review, I have no doubt the commission will make its views known in that regard.

A sum of £150,000 has been included in my Department's Estimate for 1995 in respect of the grant for the Commission on the Status of People with Disabilities and £100,000 for the grant for the proposed council for the status of people with disabilities.
