Vol. 453 No. 3

Written Answers. - Tidy Towns Competition.

Pat Upton

Question:

100 Dr. Upton asked the Minister for the Environment the cost to his Department of organising and conducting the Tidy Towns Competition; and the number of people, full-time equivalent, engaged in this work. [9238/95]

A provision of £50,000 has been made in my Department's 1995 Estimates for the running of this year's Tidy Towns Competition. In addition, it is envisaged that approximately £80,000 will be raised by way of sponsorship, entry fees etc. to meet outlays on the competition.

At present one officer of my Department is engaged on this work in a full-time capacity, with support, as necessary, until the current competition cycle is completed, from an officer, from Bord Fáilte. Additional staff will be assigned, as necessary, to provide support services and to meet seasonal peaks in the work load.
