Vol. 453 No. 3

Written Answers. - Grant Payments.

James McDaid

Question:

108 Dr. McDaid asked the Minister for the Environment the length of time it takes for a new house grant to be paid to an applicant. [9398/95]

The time taken from receipt of an application for a new house grant to its payment is influenced by a range of factors, many of them within the responsibility of the applicant. These include the stage at which the application is made, the supply of all the documentation required, the time taken to achieve completion and occupation of the house. The time taken to process an application can, accordingly, vary appreciably from one application to another.

Noel Dempsey

Question:

109 Mr. Dempsey asked the Minister for the Environment the swimming pools to which he has allocated money from the £2 million provision in the 1995 estimates to provide grant assistance towards the provision of new pools and the refurbishment of existing pools; the amount allocated in each case; and the purpose for which each allocation was made. [9330/95]

The following are the swimming pools for which I have allocated grants to date in 1995:

Swimming Pool

Grant Allocation

Monaghan Town — Refurbishment Works

£116,000(£37,500)

Muinebheag — Refurbishment Works

£73,000(£73,000)

Mullingar — Refurbishment Works

£364,000(£260,000)

Nenagh — Installation of a hoist for disabled

£12,000(£12,000)

Total:

£565,000(£382,500)

The figures in brackets relate to the estimated grant expenditure likely to arise in 1995 out of the total grant allocation for each pool. I expect that a considerable part of the balance of the £2 million allocated for the swimming pool programme in 1995 will be required to meet commitments arising from grant allocations made in earlier years.

Tom Kitt

Question:

110 Mr. T. Kitt asked the Minister for Education if she will provide funding for St. Joseph's Youth Club, Ballyboden, Dublin 16, as planning permission has been granted for the construction of a sports hall but the club has inadequate resources to proceed with this development. [9255/95]

A grant of £10,000 was allocated to St. Joseph's Youth Club, Ballyboden in August, 1994 under the recreational facilities scheme towards the provision of a sports hall. In view of the cost of providing such a facility the club has confirmed to my Department that the grant will now be used for the upgrading of the existing club premises. My Department is awaiting the submission of the necessary documentation required under the scheme to enable the grant to be paid. The question of providing funding for the sports hall project can only be considered if additional funds are provided for the recreational facilities scheme.
