Vol. 453 No. 6

Written Answers. - Judicial Appointments.

Willie O'Dea

Question:

95 Mr. O'Dea asked the Minister for Justice the number of judicial appointments made by the present Government; the names of the appointees; if she intends to make further judicial appointments in advance of the reintroduction of the Court and Court Officers Bill; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [9669/95]

Since the Government took office on 15 December 1994, the following judicial appointments have been made:—

Mr. Declan Costello, an ordinary Judge of the High Court, was appointed President of the High Court; Mr. Brian McCracken and Ms Mary Laffoy were apoointed Judges of the High Court, and Mr. John O'Neill, Mr. Michael O'Leary and Mr. David Riordan, were appointed Judges of the District Court.

As there are no judicial vacancies at present I have no proposals to make further judicial appointments for the time being.
