Vol. 453 No. 7

Written Answers. - Medical Card Eligibility.

Seán Haughey

Question:

73 Mr. Haughey asked the Minister for Health the concerns, if any, he has that the current eligibility criteria for medical cards discourages potential applicants from investing in private pension plans or savings accounts in order to ensure additional income on retirement; the changes, if any, he intends to make; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [10002/95]

Limerick East): I am not aware that the current arrangements for the assessment of eligibility for medical cards are having the effect implied by the Deputy's question. If the Deputy is in a position to do so, perhaps he would let me have any research or information which would support the suggestion that he is making.
