Vol. 453 No. 7

Written Answers. - Medical Equipment Grants.

Noel Ahern

Question:

74 Mr. N. Ahern asked the Minister for Health if health boards work from a list of equipment or appliances approved by his Department when making grants or assistance available to patients for purchasing purposes; the consideration, if any, that has been given to placing the CPAP sleep disturbance apnea or any such appliance on the list. [10017/95]

Limerick East): Assistance to patients requiring equipment or appliances is provided in different ways depending on the circumstances of the patient.

Persons covered under the General Medical Services Scheme (GMS) are entitled to medicines and appliances free of charge which are prescribed by their general practitioners. This would include such an appliance as referred to by the Deputy.

Persons not covered under the GMS who have been prescribed such an appliance should contact their local health board if they require assistance. Such applications are considered on a case by case basis.
