Vol. 454 No. 1

Written Answers. - Ashbourne (Meath) Water Supply.

Mary Wallace

Question:

98 Miss M. Wallace asked the Minister for the Environment the position regarding the improvements required to the main water supply for several towns (details supplied) in County Meath; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [10149/95]

I refer to the reply to Question No. 54 of 9 May 1995 which indicated the recent measures taken by Meath County Council to improve the water supply to Ashbourne. The position in relation to the revised preliminary report for a new Ashbourne scheme was also explained; this proposal would additionally benefit Dunshaughlin and Ratoath.

As regards the improvement of the Dunboyne water supply, my Department recently asked Meath County Council to consider an alternative approach to their earlier proposal which was linked to the new Ashbourne scheme mentioned above. The county council's detailed response to this request is awaited.
