Vol. 454 No. 1

Written Answers. - Youth Grants.

Mary Wallace

Question:

124 Miss M. Wallace asked the Minister for Education the position regarding 1995 applications to her Department for youth grants; if her attention has been drawn to the fact that these applicants are anxious to hear from her Department in the same way that similar applicants last year and in earlier years had the results of their application by April or May in the year of application; and if she will make a statement on the reason for the delay in determining the 1995 applications. [10159/95]

On 25 May 1995 all youth organisations and the grant-administering agencies for disadvantaged youth projects were notified of their grant allocations for 1995. As the Deputy will be aware from my written reply of Wednesday, 31 May 1995, the allocation of £2 million for the recreational facilities scheme in 1995 is fully committed to projects where grants were allocated in 1994 and where claims for payment will arise this year. Grant allocations to new projects can only be considered in the event of additional funds being provided for the scheme and consequently, the question of inviting applications does not arise at this stage. I would also point out to the Deputy that grant allocations under the 1994 recreational facilities scheme were not made until August 1994 and in September 1994 all unsuccessful applicants were notified by my Department.
