Vol. 454 No. 1

Written Answers. - Teachers' Protest March.

Ivor Callely

Question:

129 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Education the reason 15,000 people approximately involved in education had to march through the streets of Dublin and protest outside Dáil Éireann; the plans, if any, she has to address their concerns; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [10220/95]

The protest march referred to was organised by the teacher unions in support of a number of claims including early retirement. I have given detailed replies to questions in the House on 3 May 1995, in which I set out the offers I had made in response to the claim for early retirement and other claims. Since then the Government has issued a statement setting out the current position on the matter and I am forwarding a copy of the statement to the Deputy for his information.
