Vol. 454 No. 1

Written Answers. - Pupil-Computer Ratio.

Dan Wallace

Question:

133 Mr. D. Wallace asked the Minister for Education the pupil/computer ratio in second level schools. [8113/95]

My Department does not have full records of resources, such as computers, in individual schools. It is a matter for the management authorities of each school to decide on the number of computers which are required in the school within the overall financial resources of the school.

In a limited survey carried out by a project sponsored by my Department in 1994, a sample of 200 second-level schools were questioned on a range of issues relating to the use of information technology in schools. The computer provision in these schools was, on average, one computer for every 32 pupils.
