Question:146 Mr. B. Ahern asked the Minister for Social Welfare the number and cost of special political advisers and programme managers from outside the permanent public service appointed at his Department. [10246/95]

I have one special adviser from outside the public service. The annual cost of the post to my Department is £56,136 made up of gross salary, employer's pension fund contribution and employer's PRSI.
The Minister of State at my Department, Deputy Bernard Durkan, is currently making arrangements to appoint a special adviser but the details of this appointment have not yet been finalised.
