Question:166 Mr. B. Ahern asked the Minister for Defence the number and cost of special political advisers and programme managers from outside the permanent public service appointed at his Department. [10246/95]

No special advisers or programme managers have been appointed at my Department. However, a special adviser and a programme manager have been designated pending finalisation of a contract of employment in each case.
In the interim, the special adviser has been placed on a basic rate of £8,813 per annum, while the programme manager is receiving a basic rate of £35,400 per annum.
No such appointments have been made by the Minister of State at the Department of Defence.
