Vol. 454 No. 1

Written Answers. - Galway Coastal Erosion.

Robert Molloy

Question:

170 Mr. Molloy asked the Minister for the Marine the reason for the delay in approving an application for coastal erosion grant-aid submitted by Galway County Council for improvement works at Tawin, Oranmore, County Galway. [10140/95]

There has been no delay in approving Galway County Council's submission to the Department of the Marine detailing its top four priority coastal protection proposals. As I have previously informed the House, all coastal local authorities were requested to submit details of their priority proposals. These proposals will be examined by the Department for possible inclusion in the programme of works to be undertaken between now and the end of 1999. Both this House and the council have been informed that the level of demand for aid for coast protection works far exceeds the funding available. Receipt of a local authority submission is no guarantee that any of its proposals will be included in the programme of works to be undertaken.
