15 Miss Harney asked the Minister for Education if she intends to proceed with the setting up of regional education boards: whether she will proceed with legislation in this regard and if so when; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [10223/95]
The Government has decided, in the White Paper, that legislation will be presented to the Oireachtas providing for the establishment of Education Boards and that following the enactment of the legislation there will be a phased transfer of functions to the boards.
I will now proceed with the establishment of the Education Boards on this basis.
As I indicated in my statement to the Dáil, on 4 May 1995 my objective is to bring the Bill before the House before the end of this year.
